The goal of this project was to write a web based application that has all of the functionality of the excel weight and balance document (available for download in ‘Projects/Resources’). This is actually quite challenging for a beginner but doable! I decided to use R as my programming language because I am most familiar with it. I also considered using Python. Within R, I utilized the Tidyverse, Ggplot2, and Shiny Packages. This interactive plot is powered by a shiny app hosted on Shiny’s public server, and embedded using iframes on this site’s html. This application has uses in flight schools, corporate flight departments, dispatching, and personal flight planning. I will be uploading full source code on my GitHub if you would like to create your own application.
